So if you're serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don't shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—-that's where the action is. See things from his perspective.

say NO to foolishness

This is a Holy Spirit-inspired blog. I have no idea what I'm doing here. But we'll see what happens.

At church on Sunday, toward the end of the sermon, I scribbled down something in the margin of the church bulletin: "Don't try and figure out what you were thinking."

Now, this thought that popped into my head actually had little to do with what the pastor was saying. But I knew exactly what it meant. As a psychology major and a generally analytical person, I tend to think, over-think, and over-over-think everything. Over and over. Let's just say I spend a lot of time trying to figure things out in my own head.

So when the Holy Spirit spoke that word to me, I smiled. Clearly He knows me very well. When God reveals truth to me, it shatters some lie that I once believed. The truth takes me to this new, deeper understanding of who God is and, consequently, who I am. And as liberating as this experience can be, I often find myself thinking, "What was I thinking before?" I want to figure out exactly how I had lived for so long without this groundbreaking revelation. I try and go back to that dark place and do a psycho-analysis of my old ways...

Foolishness. The Word tells us that the wisdom of the world is foolishness to God (1 Cor 3:19). Whatever mess of the world that I used to believe and hold so dearly to my heart... God calls it foolishness. And rightly so.

Just as He said, "Don't try and figure out what you were thinking." When God brings you into closer alignment with Him and His word, just receive it. Don't try and go back to that old way of thinking and living just because it's more comfortable. God is trying to take us to new places in Him. When He gives you a revelation, don't pass Him up on it. Embrace it, proclaim it and run with it.

Thanks be to God for ridding our hearts and minds of foolishness.
